Science fiction of the 1980s predicted a future with flying cars that could drive themselves. Here we are today – in that future – and flying cars aren’t a reality. However, self-driving cars of one sort or another are here – and probably not going anywhere.  The two main companies working on a self-driving car at this time seem to be Tesla and Google.

driveinGoogle’s self-driving car is supposed to be truly autonomous, in that a user can enter a destination and sit back and relax.  This system involves the use of around a dozen sensor devices including LIDAR units, and the company has said that it will be a few years before the product is ready for consumers.  Continue reading

According to a recent news feature from the Boston Herald, a Boston firefighter who was hailed as a hero after his rescue work on the day of the Boston Marathon bombing was involved in a rescue attempt in what proved to be a fatal Weymouth car crash.  On the day of the bombing, this rescue worker provided medical attention at the finish line and comfort to an eight-year-old boy who was fatally wounded and his seriously injured younger sister.

mQo4CWyAuthorities say a 15-year-old girl died in the car wreck that happened outside of the firefighter’s home in Weymouth, Massachusetts. This local hero was in his bed when he heard the car crash outside his home.  The car collided with the street light directly in front of his house, according to witnesses.  Continue reading

According to a recent news article from NECN, two people were killed when a car allegedly crashed into a pizza restaurant in West Newton, which is located just outside of Boston. Several other people were seriously injured in this accident.

caraccident4Authorities have said the deadly Boston-area car accident occurred around 6 p.m., when the Sweet Tomatoes Pizza restaurant was filled with customers. Witnesses say the car came crashing through the restaurant and went all the way to the kitchen, where it crashed into a pizza oven.  After the car hit the oven, it then collapsed on top of the car.  Continue reading

While there is nothing worse than the loss of a child, when one or both parents are also seriously injured in the same fatal car accident, it is hard to image what a family must be going through.  According to a recent news article from the Boston Globe, a five-month-old infant was killed in a fatal Boston car accident and the child’s mother was also seriously injured.

She first thought it was a collision involving two cars, but tragically this was not the case. According to a recent report from the New York Daily News, the wife of Monty Williams was killed in a tragic car accident.  Williams, a former guard for the New York Nicks and former head coach for the New Orleans Pelicans is currently an assistant coach for the Thunder.

that-hurt-494062-m-300x216Authorities say Williams’ 44-year-old wife was involved a fatal car crash earlier this week on Tuesday night.  She was treated by first responders and taken to a local level-one trauma center for surgery, but, unfortunately, doctors were unable to save her due to the extent of her injuries, and they pronounced her dead the following night. While no serious car accident is easy for a victim and his or her family to deal with, accidents involving injuries or even fatal injuries to multiple members of the same family are among the most horrific things anyone can imagine.

Authorities have said the accident occurred in the morning while the two siblings were driving to school.  At some point, the car drove off the road and crashed into a tree.  Continue reading

According to recent news feature from the Boston Globe, a volunteer working on Ben Carson’s presidential campaign was just killed in a fatal car accident. Three other campaign workers were also injured in the same fatal car accident.

Car crash--25-4-10-007Authorities say the workers were all in a van at the time of the accident. Three of the workers were volunteers, including decedent, and the remaining worker was a paid member of the campaign staff. The van was driving on an icy road when it rolled over into its side. At this point, while the van was lying on its side, another vehicle crashed into it, resulting in serious personal injuries and one fatality. Continue reading

So far, there have not been many cold days this fall going into what is officially Winter. With this odd weather pattern and temperatures being higher than normal, we tend to get a lot of foggy morning weather. We are also getting rain instead of snow.

According to a recent news article from CBS Boston, two people were killed when a pickup truck crashed into the Charles River. Massachusetts State Police have said the 2010 Toyota pickup truck was driving on Nashua Street in Boston. This is the area on the waterfront where city jail is located.

skyline-of-boston-1224185-300x225Witnesses say the pickup truck collided with an Acura in a traffic circle just before 7 p.m.   Vehicle crash inspectors believe the truck lost control completely after the collision, broke through a guardrail, drove off Charles River Dam Road, and fell around 40 feet, landing in the water. At the time the truck went into the river, there were two people in it, a 36-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, both from Rhode Island. Continue reading

According to a recent news article from the Daily Bulldog, a Massachusetts man was just killed in fatal car wreck. Authorities say the man refused to stop for an officer attempting to pull him over and fled the scene. Authorities found him later that night in a wrecked vehicle.

that-hurt-494062-mThe 29-year-old man from Reading allegedly fled police and lost control of his 2004 Ford Escape, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and roll over. After it rolled over, the car collided with several trees and a wall made of rocks in the woods alongside the highway. Continue reading
