Report: Man Killed in Car Accident in Boston’s Sumner Tunnel

According to a recent news feature from Mass Live, a man was killed and two others severely injured as a result of a single-vehicle car accident in Boston’s Sumner Tunnel.  The man who was killed in this tragic accident was 24-years-old at the time of his death.

tunnel-1511148Authorities have said the accident occurred just after three in morning on a Friday when the alleged at-fault driver lost control of his Dodge Ram pickup truck around the Interstate 93 on- ramp.  When the car lost control, it slammed into the sidewall of the tunnel with considerable force.  The Massachusetts State Police (MSP) have released a photograph of the Dodge Ram.  In that photograph, the entire rear end of the pickup truck is destroyed and the front end is heavily damaged, as well.  The doors have been dislodged, as well, and there are parts of the vehicle strewn about the roadway.

In addition to the passenger who was killed in the Boston car crash, two other adult men were seriously injured.  A 23-year-old man who was a passenger in the car was treated by first responders who quickly arrived on the scene and then was rushed to the nearly Tufts Medical Center, which is a level-one trauma facility in Boston’s Chinatown neighborhood.   The other passenger injured in the fatal car wreck, a 23-year-old man, was also treated by first responders and rushed via ambulance to Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH).  While the exact medical condition of these two men is unknown at this time, a spokesperson for MSP said he did not believe that either of their injuries was considered life threatening.

MSP troopers from Barracks E in Boston were dispatched to the scene of the fatal car accident to conduct a full investigation into the cause of the crash.  They have not yet released any findings on the cause of this fatal accident.  As is common practice for any fatal motor vehicle accident in the Commonwealth, MSP’s accident investigation and reconstructive team was called in to conduct further investigation. Even though the police are involved, it does not mean that they suspect any criminal activity, as it is standard practice for them to conduct a full investigation. They kept the entire tunnel closed for only a short time following the accident, but kept the on ramp area closed considerably longer as they completed their investigation.

One thing to keep in mind when there are multiple injures in a single accident is that you should speak with an experienced car accident lawyer as soon as possible, because every car accident liability insurance policy will have two important claim limits that may affect the outcome of your case.  There is a per claim limit per personal injury and a total limit they will pay out for all claims arising from a single accident.  In other words, they may have a limit of $25,000 per personal per injury per person and a $50,000 claim limit for all personal injuries per accident.  This means that if that if three people were injured, they will pay a maximum of $25,000 per person and $50,000 total.  If they pay two people $25,000 each, there will be nothing left to pay the third victim, so time is often of the essence.
