Edens v. Netherlands Insurance, a car accident lawsuit case from the U.S. of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, involved a fatal crash. Plaintiff was driving a motorcycle when a car approaching from the opposite direction made a sharp turn directly in his path. The motorcycle hit the oncoming car.

mvvOLmcThis fatal motorcycle accident occurred in May 2013.  The plaintiff was 22-years-old at the time of his tragic death.  When he hit the alleged at-fault driver’s car, he suffered severe injuries.  First responders were called to the scene, but they found him non-responsive and knew there was nothing they could do save him. They called the medical examiner, and he was soon pronounced dead at the scene.  Continue reading

According to a recent news feature from 12 News Now, police arrested a man in connection with a car accident, and he was reportedly naked the time of the crash.  The somewhat strange car accident occurred just before 10 p.m. Thursday.

mlCAWKuAuthorities say after they received the call, they arrived on the scene of the car accident and saw a pickup truck that had been driven off the road and into a ditch.  The driver was standing on the roof of the pickup truck while naked and waiving his arms and yelling, apparently trying to garner the attention of anyone who would listen – or look. In ACE Fire Underwriters v. Romero, a case from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, driver left a local farm driving a tractor-trailer vehicle. He pulled on the highway next to the farm when the trailer separated from the tractor.

highway1Driver immediately realized his trailer had unhooked and drove off the road and made a U-turn so he would be facing the detached trailer.  His hope was that his headlights would light up the trailer so other cars on the road would see the trailer and avoid hitting it.   However, before he could make the U-turn, another car hit the trailer, which had no lights on it as it was no longer connected to a power source, and the driver of that vehicle died as a result of his injuries suffered in the car accident. When a car accident involves a pedestrian or bike rider, there is often a severe level of injury suffered in the crash.  According to a recent news article from ABC 5 Boston, a 14-year-old boy was seriously injured in car accident in Billerica just north of Boston. The boy was in the crosswalk when hit by a car.

nriv4oeThe driver of the white pickup truck said he was stopped in the road about three car lengths from the crosswalk when he felt like he was rear-ended.  At first he thought it was a car that hit him, and then he saw the young victim bounce off the side of the pickup truck and come to stop in front of his vehicle.  Continue reading

As you are likely aware by now, Tesla has developed an autopilot system for their luxury electric cars. Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, and his company had been rushing to get a self-driving car on the road before industry giant Google.  Google has been actively working to develop a self-driving car for years and still has a few years to go, according to the company.

porscheHowever, the company believes that when it does debut its self-driving car, it will be far more advanced than anything on the market now or then and will be a truly autonomous vehicle that allows you to input a destination, and the car will the do the rest.  This is different from Tesla’s new system that is essentially an advanced version of cruise control.  With the Tesla system, the car will travel one road and is supposed to be able to slow down and speed up and change lanes when necessary, but it is not the same an autonomous vehicle, and the driver is supposed to keep his or her hands on the wheel at all times. In State Farm Mut. Auto. Ins. Co. v. Jakubowicz, a car accident case from the Indiana Supreme Court, plaintiff and her two young sons were involved in a serious car accident that resulted in various personal injuries to the three occupants. The plaintiff filed a car accident lawsuit against the defendant on behalf of herself and her minor children.

There are few things worse that a family can experience than the loss of a child.  Unfortunately, according to a recent news article from WMUR 9 ABC, a 6-year-old boy was killed in a fatal car accident in Methuen, Massachusetts.   There were two vehicles involved in this deadly car crash.

highway1Authorities say the accident occurred around 7 a.m. near the Berkley Street intersection in Methuen.  Authorities also said this was not the first time they have worked a serious accident at this particular intersection, but most of the accidents there do not result in death. In Australia, just as in the U.S., there is a serious problem with drunk driving.  “Down Under,” they have a governmental agency called TAC that polices the highways and also provides medical attention to car accident victims. This agency also launches many public safety campaigns to promote safe driving and prevent car accidents.

Car crash--25-4-10-007TAC has been known in the past for their interesting and creative public awareness campaigns, and they have just released a new model of sorts that has gone viral.  This is a model of what a human being would look like if it evolved to a form that would survive the typical deadly car accident.  This strange looking figure, is not winning any beauty contests, as noted in a feature from CNET, but it is designed to survive in the event of a major car accident. Sam Foltz was a punter on University of Nebraska’s Cornhusker’s football team.  He was the best punter of that team and was also named as the best punter in the Big Ten Athletic Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).  Sadly, his blossoming career was cut short as he was was returning to campus to complete his senior year. He was killed in fatal car accident at the age of 22, according to a recent news article from the Lincoln Journal Star.

mQo4CWyAuthorities say Foltz was a passenger in the car traveling back to campus a few minutes before midnight when the deadly accident occurred.  They believe the driver of the vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree that was planted in the sidewalk alongside the road on which they were traveling.
