According to a recent report from the Boston Globe, one person was killed in what has been described as a fiery car accident that occurred on Route 125 in Andover.  The accident involved a semi tractor-trailer and a minivan.

unusual-dumper-217365-m-300x200Authorities say the large commercial truck was stopped at a traffic light when it was rear ended by the minivan.  The minivan hit the underride bar on the rear of the truck.  The underride bar or guard is the large horizontal bar that is often covered with red and white reflective decals. One of the most dangerous things that can happen during in a car accident is a person being ejected from the vehicle. This can often result in serious personal injury or death.  According to a recent news article from The Patriot Ledger, one teen was severely injured after being ejected from a car in Quincy, just outside of Boston.

police lineAuthorities have said the crash involved two cars and occurred a few minutes before 3 p.m. One vehicle was being driven west when the driver left the appropriate lane of travel and crossed over the center median, facing opposing traffic head-on.  At this point, the sedan crashed into a Jeep.  There were two occupants in the sedan.  One of those in the sedan was a teen, who was ejected from the vehicle.  The teen was severely injured and rushed to Boston Medical Center for treatment.  His condition is unknown, but his injuries are believed to be life-threatening. According to a recent news article from CBS Boston, two women were killed in a fiery car accident in Templeton.  Massachusetts State Police (MSP) are investigation this double-fatal crash, and are still working to determine why it occurred.

crashWitnesses have said the 2010 Mercedes vehicle was traveling down Route 2 outside of Boston when it abruptly left the road service.  It is not clear why the vehicle left the road, but after leaving Route 2, the car went flying down an embankment and crashed into a support structure for an overpass. According to a recent news article from CBS News, a study from AAA has determined that the risks of driving while drowsy are commensurate with the risks of driving while intoxicated.  The study focused on drivers who are not getting enough sleep at night and found that drivers who miss out on as little as two hours of sleep a night are four times more likely to get into a car accident than those who sleep a full seven hours per night.

sleepyThe article looks at the data but also the story of a woman whose 18-year-old son was killed in a Missouri car accident near the end of his senior year of high school.  In that crash, her son was driving during the afternoon when his car skidded across three lanes of traffic until it rolled over and flipped multiple times.  The car stopped when it slammed into a tree, and her son was killed. Actor Jonah Hill has been in a variety of different movies, and is well known for his role in the “Wolf of Wall Street,” in which he starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.  According to a recent news report from People, Hill was involved in a car crash in downtown Los Angeles.

porscheWitnesses have said the 32-year-old actor was the only one in his black Audi sedan when the accident occurred. He was driving when another motorist who was trying to make a turn allegedly did not yield right of way to Hill and slammed into the passenger side of his car.  Continue reading

Massachusetts State Police (MSP) responded to a car crash in Milton that left two dead and another injured, according to a recent news report from the Boston Herald.  This accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. when a car crashed into a tree at a reportedly high rate of speed.

car accidentWhen first responders arrived at the scene of this fatal car crash, they saw that the victims’ vehicle had been heavily damaged and burst into flames.  Firefighters were able to quickly suppress the blaze, and paramedics went to check on the condition of the victims. When someone gets in a car, they are expected to wear a seat belt.  This is instilled upon us from a young age, and, in case we forget, the car will sound annoying alarms and flash lights to remind us to fasten our seat belts.  This is not only good advice, but it is also the law.

seatbelt-602535-mHowever, this was not always the case.  Seat belts were first used in airplanes for pilots and were unheard of in cars.  This was also at a time when dashboards and steering wheels were made of hard metals and woods instead of padded materials like they are made today for safety.  While it has taken many years to ingrain the need to wear a seat belt, it seems that most people are willing comply.  According to a recent news release from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), we are now at 90 percent compliance in the United States, which is the highest it has ever been. According to a recent news article from CBS Local Boston, a pedestrian was crossing the street outside a bar in Brockton, Massachusetts at around 1:30 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. Following the crash, the driver reportedly fled the scene.

police lineWitnesses said when the car hit the 25-year-old Brockton man, he was thrown into the air.  He was with a group of friends at the nightclub, and the accident happened as the group was leaving the establishment. Continue reading

Terran Hasslebach now plays a hybrid linebacker and defensive lineman for the top-ten ranked Colorado football team.  His is the son of Super Bowl-winning Harald Hasselbach.  While he hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps and play in the NFL one day, he almost didn’t make on a high school football field due a very serious car accident. That’s according to a recent story from ABC News.

football-kick-1534163In 2010, he was sitting in his father’s BMW when they were hit by another car that was traveling at 60 miles per hour. The driver of the other car had allegedly run a stoplight and then crashed into them at high rate of speed.  His father said he remembers the exact moment of the crash and that there was no time to swerve or to even slow down.  He said he was thinking about his son and thought they might not survive the horrific crash that was about to happen.
